A Very Kardashian Wedding

Posted on October 7th, 2011 by annalemberger

Ladies (and select gentlemen)!  Get your TiVo’s ready for an inside look at one of the biggest celebrity weddings of the year. E! will air the Kim’s Fairytale Wedding as a two part special this Sunday, October 9 and Monday, October 10. Although the marriage of Kim Kardashian to pro basketball player Kris Humphries is old news for those of you who are part of the surprisingly large Kardashian cult following, E! promises “a whole lot of drama” in this special airing. Insider bridal drama should keep even the most ardent followers entertained. On the other hand, if Kim’s biggest drama is deciding on whether to keep her Kardashian name or take her husband’s, I might find more excitement on an episode of Antique Roadshow.

“Wedding Belles”: Vintage Couture Bridal Fashion

Posted on September 18th, 2011 by annalemberger

Tucked among the lush grounds of the Hillwood Estate & Museum, hides a treasure chest of vintage inspiration for wedding enthusiasts and brides-to-be. Intricate lace work and luxurious furs are among the several bridal fashions on display for the museum’s “Wedding Belles: Bridal Fashions from the Marjorie Merriweather Post Family, 1874-1958” exhibit. Marjorie Merriweather Post, heiress of the Postum Cereal Company, made her way down the aisle four times between 1905 and 1958, leaving behind a collection of gowns that reflect changes in the time and the woman. The Hollywood inspired gown of Marjorie’s third wedding, a trailing rose velvet fabric trimmed in white fox fur, is particularly stunning. The classic gown of Marjorie’s youngest daughter, actress Dina Merrill, also stands as a testament to the family’s passion for finery, fashion and artistry.

The exhibition provides other nuggets of knowledge about trends in wedding fashion; for instance, brides used to incorporate orange blossoms into their ensemble as a sign of fertility.

The Bridal exhibit is located in a smaller house on the grounds and can be viewed until January 1. Make sure to tour the mansion which has several wedding displays as well, including the dinning room and another gown inspired by the ever fashionable Marjorie, pictured below.

Royal Wedding Recap

Posted on April 29th, 2011 by Mandy Webster

The day everyone has been waiting for has finally arrived. William and Kate (we must now call her Catherine, per protocol, if you care about that kind of thing,) are now the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. My biggest excitement of the day? Finally getting to see that wedding gown! And, I am not disappointed.

Will and Kate Wedding CeremonyI was still quite young when Charles and Diana married, but what always stood out most for me about their wedding day was the fact that Diana looked like a poor little sugar bride stuck on the top tier of a wedding cake and glued down by layers and layers of frosting. So, I was relieved to finally see Catherine in her delicate, simple, yet elegant royal wedding gown, in which she could actually move and breathe. Let’s just hope the dress is indicative of a lovely, livable, long marriage to come! Read more »
