Partying Poolside: Summer Wedding Inspiration

Posted on June 12th, 2012 by annalemberger

When a friend of mine told me she would be attending a wedding with a post-nuptuals pool party I was initially a little thrown. Backstrokes and bikinis are not typical elements of a wedding or reception. However, with a little forethought and creativity, a pool or poolside soiree is really a fun way to enjoy the weather and to make your summer wedding unique. Plus it is a great alternative for couples who want the feel of a tropical, destination wedding without the travel hassle and cost. Check out my ideas below for different ways to use the swimming pool as a setting for your wedding.

Hawaiian Beach Themed Wedding

Posted on February 9th, 2012 by annalemberger

All this month look for wedding boards and ideas inspired by this year’s Oscars nominees for best picture from KTG blogger Anna. Today’s inspiration: The Descendants

Come away with me. Just for a minute. Imagine yourself dressed in a flowing white gown, your toes sinking into sand. A warm breeze whispers through your finger-combed hair. The soft sound of a ukelele keeps time as you glide down the aisle under the setting Hawaiian sun. Walk in the sandy footsteps of leading man George Clooney with a destination wedding inspired by the The Descendants‘ stunning locale. If you can’t escape to Hawaii, bring paradise to you. Engage all five senses for a truly beach-themed wedding experience. Capture sight and smell with fragrant blossoms of every hue. Ship in sand to create a truly unique dance space. A tiki bar and fruity signature cocktails will create a taste escape. Capture the real meaning of your special day forever with a unity sand ceremony.

Tree of Love: Vintage Turquoise & Birch Wedding Inspiration

Posted on February 6th, 2012 by annalemberger

All this month look for wedding boards and ideas inspired by this year’s Oscars nominees for best picture from KTG blogger Anna. Today’s inspiration: The Tree of Life.

Wife and mother of the film The Tree of Life says, “The only way to be happy is to love. Unless you love, your life will flash by.” Let these words of love be your guide as you and your future spouse anticipate your upcoming wedding and love-filled life.

For your wedding: The film’s 1950s setting provides a plethora of inspiration for a vintage wedding theme. The film’s 50s fashion is beautifully simple and down to earth. I love the grey and birch tones in this suit worn by Brad Pitt’s character. Jessica Chastain’s character wore several gorgeous pieces; my favorite is this turquoise dress with the classic full skirt and white cuffs. My grandmother had a refrigerator that color, so I know first hand turquoise is truly 1950s.  The tree is a wonderfully symbolic and natural element for your wedding. Tree canvas guest books have become very popular with modern couples. Have your guests add their name to your family tree, and hang it in your house as a reminder of the people who celebrated the beginning of your new life as a couple.

Another Peacock Themed Wedding

Posted on September 7th, 2011 by Mandy Webster

What is it about the peacock themed wedding that we love so much? Is it simply that the peacock wedding colors – navy, teal, green, and gold, are so striking together? Or is it the feathers and the flounce, the romance that is invoked by the peacock himself? Whatever it is, we can’t get enough. And neither can our readers!

Signature Cocktail: Margarita with Blue Curaçao

Posted on August 29th, 2011 by annalemberger

The Mix: Our blog series on everything from signature cocktails to DJ playlists.

This striking blue-green cocktail will add a punch of color and fun to your reception alcohol drink selections. While bartenders refer to this cocktail as a blue margarita, the name is up to you!  Imagine sipping a Blue Paradise while doing the conga line at your luau-themed wedding. A bright colored cocktail also looks stunning in elegant martini glasses against the simplicity of a black and white wedding. The blue margarita is an excellent choice, both for aesthetics and taste.

Blue Margarita with Blue Curacao

The mix

  1. Shaker with ice.
  2. 2:1 (tequila: curacao)
  3. Lime juice (a healthy dose, a little less than an ounce.)
  4. A splash of whatever sour mix is on hand.
