Color of the Year: Radiant Orchid

The color experts at Pantone have named Radiant Orchid the 2014 color of the year. These color lovers chose Radiant Orchid for the way it “emanates great joy, love and health.”  Those are certainly wonderful traits to infuse into your own wedding!  Orchids are wonderful inspiration for any time of year but especially for a warm, summer ceremony. And nothing says summer like soft sand between your toes. Orchids make the perfect beach wedding flower, from bright boutonnieres to blooming, fragrant cakes.  If you can’t have a destination wedding in Hawaii, just close your eyes and inhale that radiant orchid smell and you’ll be transported to an island in no time.

Dressing the pregnant bridesmaid? Look to Natalie Portman for inspiration

Black Swan star, Natalie Portman, is quickly becoming my personal favorite fashion icon. Although I was not a fan of the white, form-fitting Azzaro column gown she wore to the Screen Actors Guild Awards, I absolutely loved the honeysuckle Viktor & Rolf gown, complete with a hand-embroidered Swarovski crystal rose, that Natalie wore to the 2011 Golden Globe awards.

Portman was also adorable in the short beige and yellow Givenchy she wore for the lesser known Spirit awards. And now we have the Swarovski crystal encrusted, empire-waisted violet Rodarte gown (pictured at left) Natalie wore to the 83rd Annual Academy Awards Sunday.

Natalie Portman came away from the Academy Awards with an Oscar for Best Actress in a Leading Role for Black Swan.

I’m not expecting, myself, but I do know the pain of dressing for a less than perfect body. In fact, I still occasionally have people ask me when my baby is due (almost 5 years ago, thanks for asking!) It’s rare that your wedding party will consist of bridesmaids who are all perfectly built.

Whether your favorite bridesmaid is carrying a baby or just a little leftover baby fat, it’s essential to choose a dress for her individual body type. And, don’t forget those bridal undergarments. The right foundation pieces can be the key to getting the correct fit with all of your bridesmaid dresses.

If you do have a pregnant bridesmaid in your wedding party, don’t despair: Natalie Portman shows just how easy it can be to dress a pregnant bridesmaid without tieing down the baby bump!
