Royals Wed Their Own Way

Princess Bride followed by paparazzi camerasApparently, there was yet another royal wedding this year, and I missed it. Prince Albert II of Monaco married the South African national swimming champion, now Her Serene Highness, Princess Charlene of Monaco, on July 1st. After years of waiting on the part of the Princess-to-be, amid speculation and rumors, Albert and Charlene finally took their vows in front of almost all of their 7,810 adult Monegasque subjects at the Grimaldis’ medieval palace.

The New York Times says Princess Charlene, the “pretty and patient commoner who endured snippy tabloid gossip and in the end got her prince,” has much in common with Kate Middleton.

In both cases, the commoners-turned-royals have chosen to break with royal wedding tradition. While Will and Kate lived together before marriage, Albert and Charlene are agreeing in advance that they may divorce as soon as the pair has produced an heir. (Wait, what about the spare?) According to the Times, because “Prince Albert’s two children were born out of wedlock, they are barred by the Constitution from acceding to the throne.” Read more »

Royal Wedding Recap

The day everyone has been waiting for has finally arrived. William and Kate (we must now call her Catherine, per protocol, if you care about that kind of thing,) are now the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. My biggest excitement of the day? Finally getting to see that wedding gown! And, I am not disappointed.

Will and Kate Wedding CeremonyI was still quite young when Charles and Diana married, but what always stood out most for me about their wedding day was the fact that Diana looked like a poor little sugar bride stuck on the top tier of a wedding cake and glued down by layers and layers of frosting. So, I was relieved to finally see Catherine in her delicate, simple, yet elegant royal wedding gown, in which she could actually move and breathe. Let’s just hope the dress is indicative of a lovely, livable, long marriage to come! Read more »

Other news on the Royal Wedding front? Well, it looks like musician, James Blunt, is all set to play the organ at Westminster Abbey for Will and Kate’s wedding on April 29th. Blunt recently told Italian news channel SkyTG24 that he will not be singing for the royal couple, but will merely be playing the organ for their wedding ceremony.
