Adventurous couples who want something, well, a little different for their wedding should look no further than Las Vegas, or “The Marriage Capital of the World.” Add touches of rock ‘n roll to your ceremony with fun elements like neon shoes and mini guitar boutonnieres. Planning a Valentine’s Day wedding? Here are some great tips from the Your Tango Love Feed:
A couple of weeks ago, I went out to do some day-after-Christmas clearance shopping and couldn’t believe the stores were already putting out the Valentine’s Day merchandise. On another trip to the store last night, I noticed they had row upon row of Valentine’s Day gifts, candy and other doodads. So, I figured it’s probably time to start talking Valentine’s Day weddings at Knot The Groom!
There is a great deal of mystery surrounding the origins of St. Valentine’s Day. The Catholic Church has identified at least 3 different martyred saints by the name of Valentine or Valentinus, each of which may be the original martyr responsible for this candy and rose filled holiday we celebrate today.
One legend holds that Valentine was a priest of third century Rome who defied a decree by then-emperor Claudius II who outlawed marriage for all men of the soldiering age. Valentine supposedly continued to marry young lovers in secret until he was discovered, arrested and martyred, all for the sake of young love.
Another legend contends that it was Valentine himself who sent the first Valentine to a beloved young woman. It is said that St. Valentine’s lady was the daughter of his jailer. The young lover signed a letter to the jailer’s daughter with the phrase, “From your Valentine.” Thus, the current tradition of sharing loving notes, candy and flowers with our own “Valentines” today.
