In my last Simple Wedding Reception Menus post, I discussed some of the many options available for a wedding buffet. As usual, I got a little long winded and had to cut myself short. So today, I will finish up this discussion by telling you all about a couple of the latest trends in wedding buffets: the dessert buffet and the brunch reception.
This photo wedding cake tTopper will look adorable atop a pile of cupcakes on your dessert buffet.
A while back, I was discussing wedding dessert menus with some Facebook friends, and pies were suggested in place of wedding cakes. A distant cousin, Jennifer, says, “I think if I ever get married, I’m going to have wedding cupcakes…”
Wedding cupcakes have actually become fairly common in recent years. And, I think a cupcake bar would be really cute in place of the traditional wedding cake. With a cupcake bar, you could offer several different flavors of both cake and frosting. The cakes can be arranged in tiers with a traditional wedding cake topper on the top tier.
Jenny continued her reception menu musing, joking, “I [also] thought it would be hilarious to have wedding pancakes, lol, tiny, silver dollar ones!”
While I know she was joking, it made me wonder, “Why not?” A pancake bar or waffle bar at a wedding would be a great idea. You could even pair it with an omelet station where guests could choose their own fixings and watch as their omelets are made to order. And then, I had an epiphany: a traditional wedding cake decorated to look like a huge stack of fluffy Belgian waffles, covered in luscious fruits and mounds of pillowy whipped cream.
