‘Tis the season for giving – which makes this a perfect time to share an amazing story of two newlyweds and their inspiring Give Back Wedding!
Lauren and Brian were married this past July at the Lodge and Spa at Breckenridge in Breckenridge, Colorado. This couple’s special day was full of love and laughter, captured beautifully by Lisa Meeter of Lisa Anne Photography. It’s hard not to be joyful when you know your wedding is making such a difference! Lauren and Brian knew having a big wedding was important to their loved ones; however, they wanted to make sure that they stayed true to their values as environmentally conscious teachers committed to working with at risk students. And so the “Give Back Wedding” was born. Every detail – from the biodegradable cupcake wrappers to the Colorado wildflower bouquets – gave back, in one way or another, to something this couple cares about:
“Brian and I felt so blessed to have found this love that we wanted to share our love and happiness with the rest of the world. We wanted our love to make a difference in the hearts of others in the same way that it had in our very own.”
It started with the wedding invitations.
“Brian and I are very eco conscious. As I began looking for eco-friendly wedding invitations, I discovered Cards for Causes and noticed that I could purchase recycled invitations and allocate a portion of the purchase to the charity of our choice. We chose The Alzheimer’s Foundation as both of our grandmothers suffered from the disease. From there, we simply brainstormed causes that we were passionate about and researched ways to incorporate them into the day.”
They gave out information and goodies from their favorite organizations to guests as favors – like bands from ONE and Livestrong.
“What was so incredible was the generosity that we received from everyone that we contacted! Many organizations gifted us with items. We were looking to do something good, and we ended up receiving so much love, support and generosity!”
Lauren even had a Give Back Bachelorette day! They ran a 5K for a local animal rescue and hosted a Bead for Life party with food and beverages from companies with philanthropic ideals and missions.
I love the bouquets of Colorado wildflowers that benefited local growers. It was one way Lauren and Brian showed support for those devastated by Colorado wildfires. They also kissed every time a guest made a donation to the wildfire relief effort. So creative!
I am so touched by Lauren’s final words about their special day:
“Ultimately, we realized that this day would be once in a lifetime. There would be photos that would inevitably end up on Facebook, in emails, texts, etc. We wanted our wedding to be more than one day, one party, one celebration. We wanted it to be something that would continue on and have a greater impact on our guests and ultimately on the world. We included literature from each organization in our wedding favors and made sure to recognize all of the people who made our day so amazing.”
What an incredible couple. And just look at that stunning landscape.
